Berlin firmly supports Nord Stream-2 because it trusts gas products from its Russian partner.

Does Germany really trust Russia enough to support Nord Stream-2 despite US-style threats?

Accordingly, Mr. Dirk Wiese said that Russia is a reliable supplier. This makes Germany support the Russian gas pipeline project and ensure that Ukraine's gas transit takes place as planned. Gas transit through Ukraine is one of the conditions that helps the Nord Stream-2 project avoid sanctions from the US. "Russia has always been a reliable supplier, and up to this point that is still true," Mr. Wiese noted.

Germany plans to abandon coal and nuclear, and will use gas in the next 20 years, Mr. Wiese stressed. Russia is still the partner Berlin needs to "guarantee 100% of energy, and we need natural gas for the transition period."

Earlier, in a message to national leaders at the Davos Forum, German Chancellor Angela Merkel also declared that Germany wants to give up coal and nuclear. Berlin cannot do anything without Russian gas.

For the Berlin government, the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline construction project is of course an important economic project for both Russia and Germany, and the country will never abandon a project that is beneficial to the country.

Russia has continued to set new records for gas deliveries to Europe.

According to the head of the German Economy Ministry, Mr. Peter Altmayer, told the Handelsblatt newspaper, Nord Stream-2 "is not a boy to be beaten" and emphasized that the German government has no legal basis to interfere in the construction of Nord Stream-2 because it is located at sea.

The German Parliament also agrees with the leadership's view that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is not political in nature, it does not lead to Europe's dependence on Russia for energy, but rather to mutual dependence on both sides.

Mr. Yuri Solozobov - head of the Center for International Energy Policy in a conversation with RT commented that the criticism from the US side of the Nord Stream-2 project is only aimed at seeking benefits for the US.

In this situation, the US wants to become the “master distributor” or “overall operator of the gas market in Europe”.

Currently, the US is imposing its foreign policy and political orientation on Europe. If in the future, Washington continues to disrupt the energy cooperation between Russia and the EU, and dominates most of the European gas market, the dependence of EU members on the US will be even greater.
