Germany summons Philippine ambassador after Duterte compares himself to Hitler

Germany complained to the Philippine ambassador about Mr Duterte comparing his war on drugs to Hitler's Holocaust.

"Any comparison of behavior with the crimes of the Holocaust is completely unacceptable," German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer said on September 30.

The ministry also said it had summoned the Philippine ambassador to discuss the issue, according to AFP.

Germany, Europe's top economy, has expressed serious concerns about the war on drugs waged by Philippine PresidentRodrigoDuterte initiated, causing more than 3,000 deaths in three months.

Mr Duterte yesterday drew parallels between his anti-drug campaign and the Holocaust by Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

Several Jewish groups have condemned Mr Duterte's statement and demanded an apology from the Philippine President. US Defense Secretary Ash Carter also expressed deep concern about his remarks.Duterte.
