According to Bloomberg, at a meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US Vice President Mike Pence on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in mid-February, Mr. Pence asked Germany to deploy naval ships to the Kerch Strait.
It is understood that the German Chancellor initially expressed her willingness to send ships to the Kerch Strait, but in the end, Ms. Merkel rejected Mr. Pence's offer, because the idea was "unnecessarily provocative," Bloomberg wrote.
The US has recently continuously dispatched naval ships to the Black Sea, affirming that the operations Washington deploys in this sea area are in accordance with international law.
