Germany: Dikes break, many towns and villages in danger.

Towns and villages along the Elbe River in Germany are in danger and on high alert due to flooding.

German authorities announced today that a dike near Aken in Rosenburg has broken, posing a serious threat to the lives of people living in nearby areas.

Yesterday, more than 3,000 people were evacuated from the area around Rosenburg following reports that a levee near Aken was at risk of collapsing due to a 300-meter section of it subsiding. According to local authorities, any attempts to save the levee were too dangerous and should not be undertaken.

Ulrich Gersterer, an official in the Salzlandkreis district, said: "We are truly shocked by the damage caused by the flooding, especially in Breitenhagen. People are trying to use sandbags to reinforce the dike to stop the water from flowing through. It's really risky. Every minute that passes, a large amount of water flows through. This shows that this measure cannot be effective. A more appropriate solution is needed."

Mr. Ulrich also announced that a mandatory evacuation order would soon be issued to ensure the safety of residents, although many people are currently reluctant to leave.
