Don't let academic pressure weigh down on children.
(Baonghean) - At the end of the school year, the pressure of grades or final exams always weighs heavily on students. Meanwhile, parents are sometimes the indirect cause that makes their children's studies more difficult.

Currently, in addition to studying in class and taking extra classes in the afternoons at school, I also register for 5 extra subjects outside, which are Math, Literature, English, History, Chemistry (subjects of the 10th grade entrance exam)"...
Uyen’s only way to relieve stress is to throw herself into studying and “run around” from one extra class to another. Uyen also said: “I really have to “stay up late and wake up early”. Currently, in addition to studying in class and taking extra classes in the afternoons at school, I also register for 5 extra subjects outside, which are Math, Literature, English, History, Chemistry (subjects for the 10th grade entrance exam)”...
With this schedule, Uyen has to travel to 3 to 4 places every day to study more. On Sundays, she studies 5 shifts from 7am to 9:15pm. And for English alone - the subject that Uyen plans to take the exam for, Uyen has registered for 3 extra classes for topics such as grammar, essay writing, listening and speaking...

At this time, after completing the semester exams, students in some schools have started to take a break from school. However, at Le Mao Secondary School, the class schedule for grade 9 students is still full both morning and afternoon.
Teacher Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy - English teacher said: "The exam time was urgent, so all students tried their best, gathered in groups to practice. Teachers also had to make great efforts, gathering many types of exam questions based on the sample exam questions issued by the department so that students could get familiar with the types of questions."
Teacher Nguyen Thanh Thu - Principal of Le Mao Secondary School also shared: "Sometimes when I see children struggling with extra classes, I advise parents not to let their children study too much, some subjects can be studied thoroughly in textbooks is enough. However, parents are not assured and so everyone rushes to take extra classes outside."

Talking about the pressure of exams, teacher Le Xuan Son - Vice Principal of Vinh University High School for the Gifted said: "Going to school means having pressure and through each pressure students will mature and progress. However, we also have to understand the pressure correctly to avoid students falling into crisis.
We also have to understand pressure properly to avoid students falling into crisis.
For example, let them develop according to their own abilities, do not choose a school beyond their abilities or do not expect too much when the students' abilities are limited... Or, parents and students should not think that taking more extra classes is good. At this time, let the children review for exams and systematize their knowledge. If they take more extra classes, it shows that they are insecure and not confident in their abilities."
Do not impose parental wishes on children
Every year at the end of May, on social networking sites, images of parents showing off their children’s achievements are quite common. Happy people give compliments to their children, but those whose children are doing poorly are quite sad.
There are many different opinions on this issue, some in favor, some against. This is also the reason why in recent years many schools have not publicly announced students’ test scores at year-end meetings. Instead, each student’s results will be sent to each parent by the school.

In fact, showing off their children is a normal psychology of parents. However, parents themselves do not think that this will inadvertently put pressure on their children and will put pressure on many other parents.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan in Le Loi ward (Vinh city) believes that for primary school students, they only need to know how to read, write and develop some good life skills. Therefore, instead of letting her children focus too much on culture, she sends them to many skill classes and lets them participate in many experiential activities.
Most parents nowadays still want their children to have high test scores without caring about what they like or whether they are excited about studying.
However, at the end of each school year, she still feels sad because: “I want my children to develop comprehensively but they seem to be “out of place” in the current educational environment. Most parents today still want their children to have high test scores without caring about what they like or whether they are enthusiastic about studying. Or at the final meeting, teachers only focus on praising students who are good at Literature and Math but do not know how to encourage students who may be a bit weak in culture but are active, agile, and know many life skills...”.

As a parent and an educator, Dr. Duong Thi Thanh Thanh - Head of the Department of Psychology - Faculty of Education - Vinh University said: "I think that parents are not wrong in always wanting their children to study well. However, do not impose all of your wishes on your children. That is, if your child has the ability to enter a specialized school, you should encourage them, but do not "force" them to enter. If it is beyond their ability, it will have the opposite effect on them, even causing them to develop negative behaviors.
I think it is not wrong for parents to always want their children to study well. But, do not impose all your wishes on your children.
In my personal opinion, I always let my children enjoy all the best things of youth and try to equip them with skills so that when they leave my arms, they will be strong. This also helps children have more opportunities to interact with relationships, not be limited in activities and reduce the burden and pressure of studying.
