Using Literature scores for medical admission: What does the Ministry of Education and Training say?
In response to the controversial decision by some universities to include Literature in the admissions group for the medical major, the Ministry of Education and Training said it would review the schools' overall admissions methods and would ask them to explain if necessary.
Recently, some private schools announced their admission plans, including using Literature as the subject for admission to the medical major. Specifically, Van Lang University (Ho Chi Minh City) uses the D12 combination (Literature, Chemistry, English); Vo Truong Toan University (Hau Giang) and Tan Tao University (Long An) use the B03 combination (Math, Literature, Biology); Duy Tan University (Da Nang) uses the A16 combination (Math, Natural Sciences, Literature).
The introduction of LiteratureAdmissionThe medical major, in addition to the traditional B00 combination (Math, Chemistry, Biology), has caused mixed reactions. Many opinions are concerned that such admission cannot accurately assess the student's ability, cannot select students suitable for the major, thereby causing waste for students and society.

Meanwhile, representatives of some schools believe that doctors not only need to be good at their profession but also need to have a good attitude, know how to listen and share with patients. The qualities of people who are good at Literature are essential for this job.
In response to these conflicting opinions, Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training, said that the most important factor that all relevant parties are concerned about is the training quality of the schools. Any school with an inappropriate form and method of enrollment, with a very low admission rate, etc. will be affected in terms of its reputation, brand, and training quality. In the long run, candidates will certainly not choose to study there.
The Director of the Department of Higher Education also said that in the coming time, the Ministry of Education and Training will review the overall admission methods of schools. If necessary, the Ministry will request relevant training institutions to report and explain issues of concern to society./.
