Don't be lazy to use manual transmission on automatic cars

(Baonghean.vn) - Most modern cars use automatic transmission because of its simplicity in operation. However, the simplicity of automatic transmission makes many drivers "lazy" to learn and use all the functions, including manual transmission (sport transmission)... If you are a driver who likes to use manual transmission, please refer to some of the experiences and usage below.

1. Shift gears M+/- on the gear lever

This is a very popular type of gearbox that is equipped on almost all types of cars. Using them is not too complicated, the way of operation is the same as other manual transmission cars, but the difference is that there is no need to press the clutch pedal.

When switching to M +/- mode, gear shifting is entirely up to the driver. It allows the driver to change gears as desired. Specifically, to go up a gear, push the gear lever to (+); to go down a gear, pull the gear lever to (-).

Upshifting and downshifting depends on the vehicle speed and engine rpm (like a manual transmission). Do not shift up or down at will, as this can damage and break the gears of the gearbox.

2. Steering wheel paddle shifters

The steering wheel paddle shifters are used on sports cars, luxury cars and some popular cars. The paddles on the steering wheel have the same function as M+/- on the gear lever and operate according to the rule that the right paddle increases the gear and the left paddle decreases the gear. This function can be easily operated, but gives a strong, exciting feeling and increases driving inspiration.

With this type of paddle shifter, the driver does not necessarily have to act on the gear lever, but just pull the paddle, the car will automatically switch to manual mode, even if the car is in position D.

3. Gear shifting limit

This is a design commonly used in older cars, operating like the M shift, but limiting the number of gears allowed by the gearbox. Besides the normal D number, the car has an additional number 2, 1 or 3, 2, 1 or 3, 2, L... depending on the manufacturer, in which L is the low number (Low) and equivalent to number 1.

With this gear, the driver can apply it in cases of accelerating and overtaking the car in front. At that time, the driver needs to shift to 3rd gear to increase torque, helping the car accelerate faster. Or when going downhill, to ensure safety, the driver should not brake for a long time because it can easily lead to slipping; Just shift to a low gear such as 3, 2, 1, L... to brake the engine and the car will automatically slow down.
