Using AK gun to seriously injure police officer, sentenced to 30 years in prison
(Baonghean.vn) - When asked to buy, Tho No Tua and his accomplices collected drugs in order to smuggle a large amount of "goods" to Vietnam. During the buying and selling process, he always kept his AK loaded. When surrounded and arrested, Tua opened fire on the police in an attempt to escape.
On the morning of January 24, the Provincial People's Court held a first-instance trial of defendant Tho No Tua (born in 1983, residing in Sam Tay district, Hua Phan province, Laos) for murder, illegal drug trafficking and illegal use of military weapons.
Through public questioning in court, Tua's criminal behavior was clarified: Around the beginning of 2016, Luong Van Binh drove a truck to deliver goods to Laos to sell and met and became acquainted with Tho Chong Po. Po told Binh "if you know anyone in Vietnam who needs to buy drugs, let me know".

Around August 2016, Binh returned to Que Phong district and met two young men named Hung and Nghia (unknown background). After a while of talking, Hung and Nghia asked to buy drugs. When he found a connection, Binh went to Laos to meet Po again and said that someone wanted to buy drugs.
Binh acted as a bridge to take Po to an abandoned house in the forest of Thong Thu commune (Que Phong district) to meet Hung and Nghia to discuss how to bring drugs into Nghe An.
Here, Po offered each package of heroin for 7 million VND. Hung and Nghia agreed and ordered 10 packages of heroin. Po returned to Laos to meet Tua to inform him of the transaction results.
The next morning, Tua brought an AK gun and 10 packets of opium with Po to sell, but Hung and Nghia saw that Tua was carrying an AK so they did not dare to buy. Tua and Po returned to Laos. The first transaction failed but Po continued to call Binh. Binh said "if you have a gun, you can't do business". After that, Po and Tua pretended to be tourists going to Phu Phuong intersection (Que Phong district) to meet Binh, Hung, and Nghia.
At Sao Va waterfall, Hung and Nghia discussed buying 5 pairs of heroin and 10 packages of opium. Tua said "5 pairs of heroin are too little, not worth the effort of bringing them over". Hung agreed to buy 10 pairs, each pair costing 280 million VND. Hung promised to give Binh 100 million VND if the transaction was successful.
On September 16, 2016, Tua invited Ly and Po to cross the border into Vietnam to deliver drugs and promised to pay them. All three went to the meeting point in the forest to deliver drugs to Hung and Binh. While they were making the transaction, Que Phong District Police surrounded and arrested them. Tua pointed his AK gun at an officer who was arresting them, seriously injuring them and requiring emergency treatment at the hospital. After that, the task force arrested Binh and Po. Tua stole the backpack containing the drugs and escaped into the forest with the gun.
The Nghe An Provincial Police Department has issued a decision to prosecute and search for Tua. On July 31, 2017, after more than a year of hiding in the forest to escape arrest, Tua was arrested.
After consideration, the People's Court sentenced Tho No Tua to a total of 30 years in prison.
Previously, on July 27, 2017, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial, a mobile trial, sentencing Tho Chong Po and Tho Hua Ly each to 7 years in prison, and Luong Van Binh to 4 years in prison for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".
At the trial, the defendant honestly confessed to the crimes of murder and illegal use of military weapons and asked for a lighter sentence. Considering that Tua's crimes were particularly serious, committing multiple crimes at the same time showed contempt for the law, so he needed to be severely punished for general deterrence and prevention.
