According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Thin, on the morning of March 19, 2025, after receiving a report from fishermen in Van Hai commune, Quynh Luu district, that fishing boat NA-80209-TS was on its way into the channel when its bottom was punctured, causing the boat to sink. At that time, there were 4 crew members on board. Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station reported and asked for instructions from the Provincial Border Guard Command and contacted, mobilized, and coordinated with ships operating near the location of the boat in distress to urgently carry out rescue work. There were about 10 vehicles operating near the fishing boat in distress that participated in the search and rescue.
At 09:30 on March 19, 2025, Ha Tinh fishermen rescued Mr. Tran Van Huu (born 1995, captain) in Van Hai commune, Quynh Luu district at coordinates 18030'N-106001'E. The unit continued to increase forces to coordinate with fishermen to continue searching and rescuing; at the same time, reported to the Nghe An Provincial Border Guard Command to increase means and forces to continue searching and rescuing the missing victims.
During the 6-day search, the Ministry of National Defense mobilized 1 ship of the Coast Guard Command and a ship of Squadron 38 - Border Guard Command; the Border Guard Command of Nghe An province mobilized 2 Border Guard ships; Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station mobilized 1 ST 750 canoe and 8 officers and soldiers to participate. In addition, about 10 fishing boats of fishermen from Van Hai commune, Quynh Luu participated in the search for the 3 missing crew members.
“The authorities as well as the provincial Border Guard force and the Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station decided to stop the search because more than 6 days have passed, although we have mobilized all boats and human resources to expand the search areas but there have been no feasible results. Although the search has stopped, for now, we still direct and propagate fishing boats of fishermen in Quynh Luu district when participating in fishing at sea to immediately report to the unit if they discover anything suspicious; at the same time, we will strengthen patrols along the coast and at sea to handle any situations that arise,” Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Thin added.

The fishermen who are still missing are Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong (45 years old), Mr. Le Tuan Anh (20 years old), both residing in Van Hai commune; Mr. Bui Sy Nhat (48 years old), residing in Thuan Long commune, Quynh Luu district.
Previously, on March 18, the fishing boat captained by Mr. Cuong sank on its way to Lach Quen fishing port. After 30 hours, a fishing boat from Ha Tinh province rescued Mr. Tran Van Huu (30 years old) who was drifting at sea.
