Using a motorbike to carry nearly 60 kg of suspected bear legs and arms

Checking the sack Tung was carrying, authorities discovered 32 animal legs and arms suspected to be from bears, in the process of decomposing and emitting a foul smell.

58 kg of suspected bear limbs are on the list of endangered, precious, rare species prioritized for protection.

At around 6pm on June 8, Nguyen Huu Tung (33 years old, residing in Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh) was riding a motorbike carrying a sack in the direction of Mong Cai - Ha Long. When arriving at the Joint Control Station Km15 - Dan Tien Wharf, Mong Cai City, seeing suspicious signs, the authorities asked to stop the vehicle for inspection.

The sack contained 32 animal legs and arms suspected to be those of bears, in the process of decomposing, emitting a foul smell, with a total weight of 58 kg.

At the investigation agency, Tung confessed to transporting for hire for a Chinese man from Km 4 in Hai Yen ward to Km 16 in Hai Tien commune, Mong Cai city for a fee of 500,000 VND.

Authorities counted the contraband evidence.

Considering that the case has signs of criminal offense, the exhibits are on the list of endangered and rare species prioritized for protection under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the Joint Control Station Km 15 - Dan Tien Wharf has handed over the entire case file, exhibits and suspects to Mong Cai City Police for appraisal and handling.
