Under the shadow of Kim Nhan in the historical autumn days
(Baonghean) - For generations, the people of Anh Son have always been proud of their homeland having Kim Nhan Mountain - the second highest mountain in Nghe An, after Pu Xai Lai Leng peak. That mountain has entered poetry and legend, being a "historical witness" in the autumn days of August, when the revolutionary masses rose up to break the chains of slavery...
Kim Nhan Mountain is located in the central area of Anh Son district, and can be easily seen from all over the region, because of its towering height (about 1340m), and its peak soars up as if touching the clouds. In the early 19th century, Doctor Bui Duong Lich (1757-1828) wrote in “Nghe An Ky”: “The mountain is located in Ke Truong book, Tri Le commune, at the western border of the district. Its veins come from the large mountain range, and suddenly there is a peak, a beautiful sharp tip, soaring to the sky, looking like a bamboo shoot, surrounded by small mountains, looking like a lotus flower, on top there is a cave, looking like a fish’s mouth from close up. The cave is very deep and has no human footprints.”

Also writing about Kim Nhan mountain, La Son Phu Tu Nguyen Thiep had a few verses: “Thần Bút xung tiên bản/ Tiên hồ lạc thế giới” (Like a pen pointing to the sky/ Like a fox fairy falling to the world). And among the people, there is still a song about the spirit of Lam Son's army in the days of chasing away the Ming invaders in this land: “Climbing to the top of Kim Nhan mountain/ The army cheers at Bo Ai, the waves overflow Kha Luu”.
During the years of French colonial rule, at the foot of Kim Nhan mountain, they set up a garrison to rule and control both the road and the river, day and night sending soldiers in blue uniforms to guard, search and arrest people passing by. The autumn storm arose, the revolutionary masses under the leadership of the Viet Minh Front surrounded Kim Nhan garrison, forcing the soldiers to surrender.
On August 15, 1945, upon receiving the news that Japan had unconditionally surrendered to the Allies, the inter-provincial Viet Minh issued a general uprising order to seize power in the districts. At dawn on August 18, on all roads, people from the districts poured into the central stadium (today's Do Luong town), the space was filled with a forest of flags and banners. In the Dang Thuong area (communes in the central district), where there was Kim Nhan post, a gathering point for many Japanese soldiers, the Viet Minh Anh Son Provincial Committee directly directed the capture.

Lieutenant General - Hero of the People's Armed Forces Pham Tuan revisits the place where fighter planes were hidden at Dua airport, Tuong Son commune (Anh Son). |
According to the plan, on the night of August 22, 1945, amid the sound of drums, gongs and cymbals, the Self-Defense Forces divided into four directions and advanced on the enemy fort. Facing the fighting spirit of the revolutionary self-defense forces, the guards and soldiers of Kim Nhan fort had to lay down their weapons and surrender. At the same time, tens of thousands of people from Quan Lang down, from Tri Le, Dai Dien up, from Lang Dien, Hoi Tien poured in to witness the scene of the enemy's unconditional surrender, then returned to continue the struggle to overthrow the local tyrants and seize power.
The entire enemy government system from the commune to the village in the Dang Thuong area fell into the hands of the Viet Minh, and the Provisional Revolutionary Committee was established. Next, the stations in Anh Son prefecture handed over their weapons to the revolution. On the morning of August 23, tens of thousands of people gathered at Anh Son prefecture to witness the inauguration of the provisional revolutionary government, marking the permanent abolition of the colonial-feudal regime.

Thai ethnic people in Cao Veu village, Phuc Son commune (Anh Son) prepare traditional meals. |
More than 70 years have passed, the countryside at the foot of Kim Nhan mountain, once "Barbed wire pierced the afternoon sky", has completely changed, from the village to the block, all have the same prosperity. Anh Son town is gradually taking shape as a bustling district town with high-rise buildings close together, spacious and straight one-way streets. Yen Phuc (Phuc Son) land, one of the "red villages" in the Soviet movement, is now bright green with the colors of corn and rice.
Ho Chi Minh Road has “awakened” the people of Cao Son and Khai Son communes, who seemed to have been “sleeping” around the deserted hillsides. In the far west, Cay Chanh (Dinh Son) town and Bai Phu land are covered with green tea and orange trees. The communes on the left bank of Lam River have been separated for generations, now Khai Son bridge, Duc Son suspension bridge, Cay Chanh bridge, Do Rong bridge have “connected the banks of joy”. The inter-commune road on the left bank has been basically completed, bringing joy to the people, allowing children to happily go to school.

Farmers in Hung Son commune (Anh Son) harvest raw tea by machine. |
Thanh - Binh - Tho communes have become specialized sugarcane growing areas, providing raw materials for Song Lam Sugar Factory. Down to Hung Son, the hills of cogon grass and wild trees have been replaced by the green of tea trees and acacia trees as far as the eye can see, the face of the village is bright, the first unit to reach the new rural finish line of the district. Crossing Lam River to the other side is Tuong Son with the immense Coconut fields and Lang Trang beach, few people think that during the anti-American war there was a field airport here, many years of American bombs plowed and destroyed the whole area...
Autumn comes, the cool breezes caress, joy overflows. The sky is vast and blue, the golden sunlight shines on Kim Nhan mountain as if reminding us of the historic autumn days. And somewhere we hear the lyrics of the song "Anh Son, my homeland" by Meritorious Artist Tien Dung: "Only by climbing Kim Nhan... my homeland... can we see the whole mountain range, the sea surface/ Only by returning to Anh Son... can we see... my homeland... beautiful... rich.../ Lam River waves beat wildly/ Young corn intermingles with beans, a green color...".
