(Baonghean.vn) - The Nghi Son - Dien Chau section of the North-South Expressway project (2017-2020) has a total investment of VND 8,380.67 billion, including 23 bridges and 1 road tunnel.

The road has a speed limit of 100-120 km/h.

According to the design, the Nghi Son - Dien Chau section of the North-South Expressway project starts at Km380+000 after the intersection with the Nghi Son - Bai Tranh road. The route heads south, approximately 80 km from the Khe Nhoi Dam, then crosses Mong Ga Mountain via the Truong Vinh Tunnel, crosses the Hoang Mai River and crosses Ba Chop Mountain in the area between Khe May Lake and An Nghia Lake, turns right to intersect National Highway 48B (formerly Provincial Road 537), crosses the Cau Giat - Nghia Dan railway line, and intersects with National Highway 48 in Dien Doai commune.

The route continues about 2 km west of National Highway 1A, crosses National Highway 7B (formerly Provincial Road 538), then intersects with National Highway 7 and ends in the Dien Cat - Dien Chau area (Nghe An).

The road is being constructed as a Class 100-120 highway, with a design speed of 100-120 km/h (according to TCVN highway standards). The initial phase of investment will have 4 lanes and a total length of approximately 50.0 km, while the completed phase will have 6 lanes.

The North-South Expressway section from Nghi Son to Dien Chau includes 23 bridge projects.

These include 13 bridges on the highway; 9 bridges on overpasses crossing the highway; and 1 bridge within the interchange.

Specifically, the bridges on the highway include: Khe Nhoi Bridge (17.5m wide), Hoang Mai 2 Bridge (17.5m), Ba Ra Bridge (17.5m), Quynh Tan Bridge (17.5m), An Nghia Bridge (17.5m), Quynh Luu Bridge (17.5m), Ngoc Chi Bridge (17.5m), DH 258 Bridge (17.5m), Yen Hoi Bridge (17.5m), Gia Hoi Bridge (17.5m), Nguyen Thuong Bridge (17.5m), Dong En Bridge (17.5m), and Dien Cat Bridge (24.5m).

The route has 3 grade-separated interchanges, namely the interchanges with National Highway 48D, the interchange with National Highway 48B, and the interchange with National Highway 7.

On the construction route, a tunnel called Truong Vinh will cut through Mong Ga mountain, with an estimated length of 450m.

Bridge structures are designed according to standards TCVN 11823-1:2017 to TCVN 11823-14:2017 with bridge widths matching the roadbed width; specifically, bridges on expressways: include 4 expressway lanes; overpasses: bridge width matches the current road scale, taking into account planning (if any); bridges in interchanges and bridges on interchange branches have bridge widths matching the scale of the connecting branches.

The total investment for the phased development is VND 8,380.67 billion, including: construction and equipment costs of VND 5,124.28 billion; and land clearance and resettlement costs (including contingency) of VND 1,423.48 billion.
