The 780km Limon-Covenas pipeline operated by US oil giant Occidental Petroleum (Oxy) was attacked near the town of Saravena in eastern Colombia, a local military commander said.

The 780km-long pipeline explosion caused a large oil spill, affecting local water sources and surrounding vegetation. Fortunately, there were no casualties, while repair work is being carried out under the supervision of military security forces.

The Limon-Covenas plant is managed by the American petroleum company Occidental Petroleum (Oxy)./.
