During talks between senior diplomats from Iran, Russia and Türkiye along with the United Nations (UN) special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, the parties have come close to establishing a committee to amend the Syrian Constitution. This is considered a necessary step to promote the political reconciliation process in this Middle Eastern country.

Russian President's Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev said the parties had reached a consensus in principle on two of the three lists of members of the Constitutional Amendment Committee, including the lists of representatives of the Syrian government and the opposition. However, these two lists still need to be approved by representatives of the three countries that guarantor the ceasefire in Syria - Iran, Russia, Türkiye - and the UN special envoy.

Meanwhile, before final approval of the two lists, the parties need to agree on the list of committee members who are representatives of the civilian forces. According to Mr. Lavrentiev, this third list still has many problems, but to promote this process, it is necessary to establish a technical group. The time for convening this group has not been determined, but the parties agree that this expert group meeting needs to be held as soon as possible.

In his annual State of the Union address to the European Parliament (EP) on September 12, President of the European Commission (EC) Jean-Claude Juncker proposed to increase the EU's border patrol force by 10,000 over the next two years, as part of the bloc's efforts to curb the flow of immigrants from countries with armed conflicts and poverty in Africa. According to Mr. Juncker, if this goal is achieved, it will be a significant increase from the current European border patrol force of only 1,300 people.

In addition to this plan, the EC also proposed spending 2.2 billion euros on the EU budget over the next 7 years, serving the programs of replacing and maintaining aircraft, boats and special vehicles serving patrols at "input" hotspots from Africa and the Middle East. The issue of controlling the flow of migrants is heating up again in Europe after countries have sharply reduced the number of immigrants since 2015, when Europe faced the biggest migrant crisis in the past 80 years.

Regarding Brexit, President Jean-Claude Juncker warned that Britain cannot expect to remain part of this single market.

Expensive foods like meat used to cost up to 9.5 million bolivars per kilogram.

Vice President for Economy and Minister of Industry and Production Tareck El Aissami said that anyone who wants to buy or sell foreign currencies can do so at any Venezuelan bank, in accordance with the relaxed regulations announced by the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) last week. Mr. Aissami stressed that Venezuela wants foreign currencies to be bought and sold legally and to eliminate currency speculation.

Strict currency controls imposed by the Venezuelan government, along with economic sanctions imposed by the United States, have led to rapid inflation in recent years. The Venezuelan exchange rate is set through government-run auctions. However, the currency controls have created a lucrative black market in which U.S. dollars are sold for up to 10 times the official rate. The new currency exchange regulations are part of a series of measures recently announced by the Venezuelan government to revive the South American country's economy.
