According to distributor CJ CGV, as of May 5, the box office revenue of Em chua 18 has reached 107 billion VND. Thus, the romantic comedy by director Le Thanh Son has become the most successful domestic film ever at the Vietnamese box office.
For over a year, that record was held by Em La Ba Noi Cua Anh (2015). The film, a remake of Miss Granny (2011) from Korean cinema and directed by Phan Gia Nhat Linh, earned 102 billion VND.
However, the work starring Miu Le took nearly three months to set that impressive record. On the contrary, Em chua 18 only officially premiered on April 28. The film's achievement of 107 billion VND includes 13.2 billion VND from previous early screenings.

"I'm Not 18 Yet" is a romantic and humorous story revolving around a high school girl. After a night out at a bar, Linh Dan (Kaity Nguyen) "goes to bed" with a playboy (Kieu Minh Tuan) who is much older than her.
The clip recording that fateful night became her “weapon” to threaten the man, turning him into her reluctant boyfriend. But the two soon had to face their true feelings for each other.
Despite its simple plot, "Em chua 18" is still highly appreciated for its humorous and modern atmosphere. Combined with Kaity Nguyen's convincing acting and captivating soundtrack, the film has created a fever before, during and after the April 30 - May 1 holiday this year.
The resounding success of Em chua 18 made producer Charlie Nguyen immediately announce that he and his colleagues plan to make Em tren 18 for the same holiday season in 2018. However, it is currently unclear whether the new project's plot is related to the film that just broke the Vietnamese box office record.
Also last week, the blockbuster Fast & Furious 8 officially surpassed the achievement of the seventh part in Vietnam when it earned more than 152 billion VND. However, the most popular movie in the Southeast Asian country is still the blockbuster Kong: Skull Island (2017) with more than 170 billion VND./.
