"You are my grandmother" is not allowed to attend Kite 2015
"Em la ba noi cua anh" was not allowed to participate in the 2015 Kite Awards because it used a foreign script.
The latest information from Mr. Dang Xuan Hai - Chairman of the Vietnam Cinema Association, the direct organizer of the 2015 Kite Awards, said that this year, instead of holding the award ceremony on March 15 - Cinema Day like every year, the 2015 Kite Awards ceremony will be held at 8:00 p.m. on April 20, 2016 at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Palace in Hanoi.
The program will be broadcast live on VTV1. The reason for this change is that the Cinema Association wants to have more time for the Jury to work less hard in judging the films submitted for the award, especially the long-running TV series category. In addition, organizing the Kite Award in April is also to avoid the rush for film production units when they have just attended the Vietnam Film Festival in November - December and then rush to attend the Kite Award. In addition, extending the time to receive entries as well as postponing the award ceremony is also a way to create opportunities for Tet film production units to participate.

According to Mr. Hai, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Cinema Association has met and agreed that the Kite Award ceremony from this year onwards will be held in April.
A representative of the Vietnam Cinema Association also said that up to now, the Organizing Committee has received 19 feature films, 48 documentaries (2 documentary films, 34 television documentaries and 12 scientific documentaries), 23 television films (16 series and 7 short films), and 7 research works.
The organizers said that, in addition to commercial films, they are looking forward to art films, as well as independent films. However, looking at the list of 19 feature films participating in the competition, including: On the top of peace, 49 days, Troublesome trio, Once upon a time, Winning the lottery, Accidentally in love, Prophet, Super naughty nanny, Colorless rainbow, Yen's life, Returner, Beauty, I see yellow flowers on green grass, Road through the forest, Quyen, Life as you wish, Old girl with many tricks, Obsession, Super thief, the audience will see that most of these are private films, with a few state-owned films.
The Cinema Association also said that this year’s Kite Awards will not accept films and television series using foreign scripts. Therefore, the film “Em la ba noi cua anh” (directed by Phan Gia Nhat Linh) - a film remade from a Korean script - was not included in the award. According to the explanation, the Kite is an award of a professional association, promoting creativity, so it will not invite Vietnamese films that “Vietnamize” foreign scripts. Previously, this film was invited to participate in the 19th Vietnam Film Festival, but was only introduced in the panoramic program.

In particular, independent film projects last year, although very diverse and successful at international film festivals, attracting the attention of domestic audiences such as “Father, Son and…” (director Phan Dang Di), “Another City” (filmmaker Pham Ngoc Lan)… did not participate in the 2015 Kite Award.
In fact, in the 2014 Kite Awards, independent films were not enthusiastic about the Association’s Kite Awards. Specifically, the independent film “Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere” (directed by Nguyen Hoang Diep) and the experimental film “Mother’s Room” (directed by Siu Pham) – which had won many awards at international and regional film festivals – were not submitted to the awards.
According to preliminary statistics in 2015, the number of feature films produced by both the state and private sector reached nearly 40 films, but the number of films submitted to the Kite competition was only 19 films.
The fact that production units or artists have not been interested in the Kite Awards organized by the Vietnam Cinema Association for many years has been mentioned for a long time. The organizers themselves have also shared many issues related to this story. However, what can be seen is that although it is considered the "Oscar of Vietnam", the Kite is still only a small-scale award, mainly professional in nature. Even the Kite Awards are sometimes predictable. The annual award ceremonies also have many flaws.
This year, the Organizing Committee will officially accept applications for the award from January to February 2016. The Jury will work and judge the award in March 2016. In particular, the Kite Award Gala will be broadcast live on VTV1. In addition to the appearance of some famous domestic filmmakers and actors, the program will also feature some famous international figures./.
