The tragedy of a family 'drowned' in pain and illness

(Baonghean.vn) - The family of Mr. Nguyen Van Cat and Mrs. Truong Thi Canh in Hamlet 1, Quynh Dien Commune, Quynh Luu District has 9 members, but 6 of them are suffering from cancer, broken thighs, appendicitis, and microcephaly, causing their lives to fall into a vicious cycle.

After getting married, Mr. Cat and his wife had 4 children, but unfortunately, the 3 daughters were born with microcephaly, causing intellectual disability, epilepsy, frequent screaming, hair pulling... For the past 30 years, all activities of these children have been completely dependent on their parents.

Every day, the couple diligently worked in the fields, as construction workers, or did whatever else they were hired to do to earn extra income to support their sick daughters and pay for their only son's tuition.

However, poverty did not let her go when 4 months ago, Ms. Canh had pain in one breast. She then went to the doctor and was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer by doctors at Nghe An Oncology Hospital.

Since then, Ms. Canh has been stuck in the hospital for surgery to remove one breast and undergo chemotherapy. She can only stay home for 9 days a month, so she always tries to hide her fatigue and tries to take care of her young child with her husband.

Travel and medical expenses are quite expensive, so Mr. Canh and his son always try to work to earn more income. However, Mr. Canh had just had an emergency appendectomy when a few days ago, his son, who was working as a mechanic, had an accident at work and broke his femur. He is currently at Nghe An General Hospital undergoing surgery and intramedullary nailing.

“Due to difficult circumstances and my own illness, I am now confined to the house to take care of my children and two young grandchildren. Currently, thanks to relatives and neighbors lending me tens of millions of dong, I have enough money to pay for the hospital fees while my wife and son are in the hospital. As for taking care of my son, I rely entirely on my daughter-in-law. I just hope that I will recover and have stable health to be the pillar of the family,” Mr. Cat shared.
