The engine roared. From the press came piles of fine, dry sawdust-like dust, which the man carefully collected in a sack. No one could have guessed that just a few minutes before, the input to this machine was… fresh pig manure.
Farm owner Tran Van My in Duc Hop commune, Kim Dong district (Hung Yen) happily introduced the manure press machine that helps him earn an additional 30-35 million VND per month from pig manure.
Mr. My's farm has an investment of up to 7 billion to build 3 barns with the purpose of raising and processing 3,000 pigs, along with a manure press.

From the beginning, he was guided by the Hung Yen Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to apply a closed waste treatment system with a total value of 700 million including a manure press, a multi-compartment tank for the press (the manure press alone worth 95 million was supported with more than 40 million) and a 5,000m3 biogas tank with a canvas bottom.
Accordingly, manure from the barn and wastewater from the pigs will flow into a 3-compartment tank with a capacity of about 60m3. The first compartment where the manure falls and settles is also where the suction cup of the press is located. Water from tank 1 overflows to tank 2, from tank 2 overflows to tank 3 and finally flows into a 5,000m3 biogas tank for treatment before being discharged into environmental tanks.

The compost press is operated once a day. After the water is removed, the compost is mixed with biological products and then bagged for a week to remove the smell before being sold.
On average, a large pig excretes 2 kg of manure per day, so 3,000 pigs in the farm excrete 5-6 tons of wet manure, after processing, about 1.2 tons of dry manure are obtained. With a selling price of 1,000 VND/kg, the farm is always in a state of "out of stock" because the demand of fruit tree growers, clean vegetables, and flowers in the area is very high, never afraid of unsold products.
Mr. Do Trong Thao - provincial agricultural extension officer said: "Without the manure pressing system, the environment would be greatly affected. Now, farm owners also have a steady, not small, source of income from selling pig manure after pressing."

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Kien - Director of Hung Yen Agricultural Extension Center, the Provincial People's Committee has recently approved the project "Livestock waste treatment and production of high-quality organic fertilizers for clean agricultural production in Hung Yen province" in the period of 2017-2020 with a scale of 100 models.
In 2017, the Agricultural Extension Center implemented 6 models in pig farming (level 1 with a scale of over 1,000 pigs: 1 model, level 2 from 500 - 1,000 pigs: 1 model and level 3 over 50 - 500 pigs: 4 models). All clearly demonstrated advantages in terms of environment and economy, so they were very popular with the people. Therefore, in 2018, the regulation only allowed 12 pig manure treatment models, but 28 households registered.

However, to be truly effective, people must be careful in choosing the type of machine as well as the technology, because in the past, there were households who bought them themselves but encountered the situation of weak motors and large screen holes, so they could not suck and press dry manure. The most important thing to turn manure presses into money presses is that regardless of the origin of the system, the 2 separating and sucking motors must be of very good quality (most reasonable is from Germany).
According to Mr. My, the income from the manure press can be even higher, and the operating cost of the machine can be even lower if the tank is built in a circular shape instead of the current square shape. The square tank requires a lot of effort to push the manure down the pump's suction throat, while the round tank, when operating, will create a vortex to help the pump suck it up easily.
