Eto'o becomes the highest-paid player in the world.
Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala says it has reached an agreement to sign a player.striker Samuel Eto'o. The transfer fee that Anzhi had to pay to the Nerazzurri was around 36-39 million USD.
Accordingly, the former Barcelona striker will receive a massive salary of up to $29 million per year. This salary puts him ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo ($17 million) and Lionel Messi ($15.2 million) to become the highest-paid player in the world today.
According to an announcement on Anzhi's official website: "Anzhi and Inter have officially reached an agreement on the contract of Samuel Eto'o. Eto'o will undergo a medical examination today and the Cameroonian striker will then sign a three-year contract with the club."
Anzhi is owned by one of Russia's wealthiest businessmen, Suleyman Kerimov (whose net worth is estimated at $7.8 billion, according to Forbes magazine). The current captain of Anzhi is Roberto Carlos, the defender with the extraordinary left foot.
At 30 years old, Eto'o remains one of the world's top goalscorers. He scored 37 goals for Inter in all competitions last season. Three Champions League titles (two with Barcelona, one with Inter) and countless other trophies are perhaps enough to satisfy this striker, allowing him to focus more on earning money than pursuing other top-tier titles.
Inter are currently urgently searching for a replacement for Eto'o. A number of names such as Diego Forlan (Atletico Madrid), Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli), and Carlos Tevez (Manchester City) are on their radar.
