The EU intends to extend bailout funds for Greece.

(Baonghean.vn) - If Greece does not announce an extension of the international bailout plan, the ministers of the Eurozone will plan to extend these bailout funds for another six months, until mid-2015. According to the previous plan, the bailout for Greece was expected to end at the end of this year.

This extension is seen as giving Greece more time to meet the conditions for disbursing the remaining funds. However, this would contradict the wishes of Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, who wants to get Greece out of the bailout plan to increase his chances of winning the presidential election in February 2015.

Extending the €240 billion bailout package signed in 2010 is considered necessary because international donors and the Greek government have yet to reach an agreement on the conditions for Greece to receive the €1.8 billion bailout package.

To avoid the plan by the end of this month, the Athens government must reach an agreement before the meeting of eurozone finance ministers next Monday in Brussels. Discussions are known to often encounter disagreements between the Athens government and the “troika” comprising the IMF, the European Central Bank, and the European Union regarding Greece’s financial needs in 2015.

According to a document prepared for Monday's meeting of finance ministers, which Reuters consulted, extending bailout funds until the end of the second quarter of 2015 appears more likely. However, the news agency stressed that a scenario where both sides reach an agreement before December 8th, then make the final bailout payment and establish credit lines before the end of January 2015, is also possible.
