EU member states are looking forward to the investigation into the disappearance of a Saudi journalist in Türkiye, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said at a press conference on October 15.

“All member states in the bloc have just reached a consensus and agreed that we expect transparency and clarity in the investigations carried out by Saudi Arabian authorities in coordination with Turkish authorities,” Ms. Mogherini emphasized.
Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz on October 15 ordered prosecutors to open an internal investigation into the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi on October 2 after entering the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul, Türkiye, to complete procedures for his marriage to a Turkish woman.
Meanwhile, on the afternoon of October 15 (local time), Turkish investigators also searched the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul to investigate and clarify this incident.
The disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi has sparked a wave of international criticism. US President Donald Trump has even threatened “severe punishment” if it is true that journalist Jamal Khashoggi was murdered in the Saudi Arabian consulate. European allies are also calling for a “credible investigation” and for those responsible to be brought to justice.
However, speaking to reporters at the White House after a phone call with the King of Saudi Arabia, US President Donald Trump said on October 15 that the King of Saudi Arabia still firmly denied any involvement in the above incident.
