Journalist Jamal Khashoggi disappeared after entering the Saudi Arabian Consulate in Istanbul last week.
Several major US media outlets said they would not attend the conference.
Secretary General Ricardo Gutierrez said the EFJ neither supports nor opposes the boycott of American media. He also said it is not the responsibility of the Federation for newspapers to promote or boycott an event organized by the business community.
The EFJ secretary general stressed that the boycott was not a serious issue. He called on Riyadh to explain what happened to journalist Khashoggi, who went missing in the Saudi Arabian consulate on October 2.
Turkish officials have accused Saudi Arabia of killing Khashoggi. Saudi Arabia has denied any role in his disappearance.
