According to EVN's assessment, the power system is capable of supplying electricity for the economy and people's daily life. The system will not have to reduce load and is ready to respond even in the event of higher electricity output than the plan approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Due to the drought and the impact of the El Nino phenomenon, which is the strongest and longest in the past 60 years, there is a shortage of water in most hydroelectric reservoirs. Although the reservoirs have been proactively filled with water early, due to the lack of floods in the rivers during the flood season, as of January 1, 2016, the water level of many large hydroelectric reservoirs is still lower than the normal water level, especially in the Central and Central Highlands regions.

For the midland and northern delta regions, EVN has directed relevant units to plan the reasonable operation of Son La, Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang, and Thac Ba hydropower reservoirs to supplement water sources for downstream areas and ensure sufficient electricity to pump water for agricultural production in the midland and northern delta regions during 3 concentrated water intake periods from January 21 to February 23.

For the Central and Central Highlands regions, EVN directed the National Power System Control Center to regulate hydropower plants with low water flow and low water levels to maximize water storage to prepare for water supply to downstream areas during the 2016 dry season.

Regarding the 2016 dry season power supply plan, EVN said that by the end of 2015, the total electricity production and import output of the entire system is estimated to reach 164.4 billion kWh, an increase of 12.94% compared to 2014 and 3.35 billion kWh higher than the plan approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The maximum capacity reached 25,828 MW (July), an increase of 16.34% compared to 2014 (the maximum capacity in 2014 was 22,201 MW).

The Group's electricity production and purchase in 2015 is estimated at 159.4 billion kWh, an increase of 11.23% compared to 2014 (2.5 billion kWh higher than the plan), commercial electricity is estimated at 143.34 billion kWh, 1.54 billion kWh higher than the plan and an increase of 11.44% compared to 2014, of which domestic commercial electricity is estimated at 141.34 billion kWh, an increase of 11.6% (the North increased by 14.7%, the Central increased by 10.86%, the South increased by 9.69%).

EVN said that the group has fully met the electricity demand for production, business and daily life of the people nationwide. The direction and operation of electricity production and supply has closely followed the weather, hydrology and electricity load demand. Power generation, transmission, distribution and dispatching units at all levels have closely coordinated, effectively mobilized power sources, and operated the power system stably and safely.

With electricity demand continuing to grow at a high rate, the output structure of electricity sources in the dry season of 2016 includes: Hydropower 25.687 billion kWh, accounting for 29.14% of the total system's source structure; Coal-fired electricity 35.998 billion kWh, accounting for 40.84%; Gas-fired electricity 24.425 billion kWh, accounting for 27.71%; Imported from China 950 million kWh, down 733 million kWh compared to 2015; Other sources 1.091 billion kWh.

According to EVN's assessment, the power system is capable of providing enough electricity for the economy and people's lives. The system will not have to reduce load and is ready to respond even in the event of higher electricity output than the plan approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

To ensure electricity for the South, gas turbines and coal-fired thermal power plants in the South will be fully mobilized, with transmission on the 500 kV North-South lines always at a high level throughout the year.

To ensure power supply in the dry season and the whole year of 2016, EVN also focuses on consolidating hydropower plants, coal-fired thermal power plants, and gas turbines; reasonably arranging maintenance schedules for power plants in 2016; storing water in hydropower reservoirs to the highest possible water level to ensure the highest available source for the dry season of 2016, especially hydropower sources in the South and South Central regions.

At the same time, direct the Power Generation Corporations to consolidate equipment to stably operate coal-fired thermal power plants from the beginning of 2016, especially coal-fired thermal power plants in the South. Speed up construction progress to soon put key projects on the transmission grid into operation...
