A new bill drafted by the Russian military would allow the country's air defense forces to shoot down any aircraft that could threaten civilian life or cause a major environmental disaster in Russia,RTThe bill is considered a significant change compared to the "law on dealing with aircraft violating the border" issued by Russia in 1994, which has a provision prohibiting firing on planes with passengers or hostages inside.
Russia's anti-terrorism law already allows the country's security forces to use lethal weapons against hijacked civilian aircraft, which pose a serious security threat. The new bill, expected to come into effect in February, aims to eliminate the differences between Russian legal systems and regulations.
