Reporter Per Shuster says federal investigators are nearing a decision on whether to consider criminal charges against the former Secretary of State and former First Lady of the United States.
Citing an unnamed law enforcement official, Al Jazeera revealed: FBI Director James Comey directly directed this search. An investigation team has also been established at the decision of Justice Department prosecutors. The team is evaluating evidence, analyzing data according to the relevant laws and preparing to interview key figures involved in the case.
This number will include both Mrs. Clinton and Staff aide Cheryl Mills. After the interview is over, Director Comey is expected to make a recommendation to Attorney General Loretta Lynch about possible criminal charges against Mrs. Clinton.
Previously, in an interview with ABC News, Mrs. Clinton admitted that she made a "mistake" when using her personal email to handle work instead of her official government-issued email account, and pledged to "take full responsibility" for the incident. Although she still emphasized that using personal email during her time as Secretary of State was "allowed", the Democratic presidential candidate expressed regret for not using two separate email accounts for work and private matters.
