The EcoSport was designed in South America a few years ago as a replacement for the Fusion hatchback. However, due to cost reasons, Ford of Europe decided to move production of the model to India, a move that was met with much criticism. However, the 2018 version will be assembled at a plant in Romania, replacing the B-Max assembly line.
Overall, this European version of the EcoSport is similar to the 2018 US version, with Ford's new grille design and borrowing a few other details from higher-segment models.
To upgrade the exterior, customers can choose the ST-Line package, with 18-inch wheels, black grille, new projector headlights and sporty details at the rear of the car.
The biggest change is Ford's popular 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, which is fitted to everything from the Tourneo van to the Focus, with 125bhp. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, it returns fuel consumption of just 4.5 litres per 100km. The new engine in the EcoSport is paired with the Intelligent AWD system also used in the Kuga or Edge, which can split front and rear torque up to 50/50 in under 20 seconds.
Additionally, this engine can also be combined with front-wheel drive.
Customers can also choose the 1.0 EcoBoost petrol engine with 2 power levels: 125 horsepower and 140 horsepower.
Around mid-2018, the EcoSport will be equipped with a 6-speed PowerShift automatic transmission and a 1.5L diesel engine with less power but more fuel economy.
The model will also have a 100 horsepower petrol engine version.
