The Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium AWD is Ford's first electric vehicle in Vietnam, featuring an 88 kWh battery providing a range of 550 km and 150 kW DC fast charging. Priced at 2.599 billion VND, deliveries will begin in early October 2025.

Marking 30 years of presence in Vietnam, Ford officially entered the electric vehicle market with the Mustang Mach-E, available exclusively in the Premium AWD version. This is Ford's first electric SUV sold in Vietnam, and also marks the beginning of the company's electrification strategy in this market.

On paper, the Mach-E Premium AWD boasts key specifications for a mid-size electric SUV: an 88 kWh battery, a claimed range of 550 km, 150 kW DC fast charging, and a four-wheel drive system with two motors. The price tag of nearly 2.6 billion VND reflects import costs (35% import tax on electric vehicles from Mexico) and suggests Ford is testing the reaction of high-end consumers before expanding its electric product lineup.

The design retains the Mustang spirit on an electric SUV platform.

Despite its transformation into an electric SUV, the Mach-E retains the DNA that made the Mustang famous: the "wild horse" logo replacing the blue oval, the elongated hood, and the iconic three-bar taillight cluster. The compact coupe stance, louvered grille, modern LED daytime running lights, 19-inch wheels, and handleless E-Latch doors create a purely muscular yet aerodynamically optimized overall look for an electric vehicle.

The overall dimensions are 4,713 x 1,881 x 1,627 (mm) (length x width x height), with a wheelbase of 2,984 mm. Compared to the VinFast VF8 (4,750 x 1,900 x 1,660 mm), the Mach-E is slightly shorter and narrower, but in return, the longer wheelbase theoretically provides better legroom.

Minimalist cabin, technology at its core.

The Mach-E's interior design follows the trend of electrification: minimizing surfaces, reducing the number of physical buttons, and focusing on the display cluster. Behind the steering wheel is a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel displaying core operating information. At the center is a 15.5-inch touchscreen running SYNC 4A, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and serving as the gateway to controlling almost all of the vehicle's features.

Core amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, and an optional 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. The panoramic glass roof does not come with sunshades; Ford says the special glass helps to reduce heat absorption in hot weather and retain warmth in cold weather. Cargo space is 402 liters, expanding to 1,420 liters when the rear seats are folded down; the front trunk (frunk) has a capacity of 81 liters, useful for separating clean and dirty items.

Performance and user experience are based on published data.

The Premium AWD version uses two electric motors, front and rear, for a total output of 395 horsepower and 676 Nm of torque. The all-wheel drive system promises excellent traction in various weather conditions. The "one-pedal" driving mode allows acceleration, deceleration, and complete stopping using only the accelerator pedal – a characteristic of electric vehicles that provides smooth control and reduces braking friction.

The 88 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is the foundation for the claimed range of 550 km. 150 kW DC fast charging takes the battery from 10% to 80% in 36 minutes. On domestic/public AC infrastructure, the vehicle supports single-phase 7.4 kW or three-phase 11 kW; the claimed charging time from 10–80% is approximately 6 hours.

Active safety and charging infrastructure

The standard Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package includes: Collision Mitigation, Rear Brake Assist, Blind Spot and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Driver Attention Monitoring, and a 360-degree camera. These features help reduce driver fatigue on highways and in urban areas and enhance active safety in intersection situations.

Regarding charging infrastructure, Ford Vietnam stated that customers can charge at 53 dealerships nationwide, and the company is collaborating with charging station providers to increase the total to 275 locations in the near future.

Competitive pricing, delivery schedules, and positioning.

The Mustang Mach-E Premium AWD is priced at 2.599 billion VND; the first 300 customers will receive a 100 million VND discount. The first vehicles are expected to be delivered to customers from the beginning of October 2025. The current price is heavily influenced by the 35% import tax on electric vehicles from Mexico.

In terms of positioning, this model targets high-end customers who love the Mustang brand and are willing to experience electric vehicles. Ford Vietnam has not set specific sales targets, viewing this as a test run to gauge market reaction. In terms of competition, when sales need to be boosted, the Mustang Mach-E will compete with the VinFast VF8 – a rival priced at about half the cost (1.199 billion VND) but with "almost equivalent power," according to the source information.

Conclude

The Mustang Mach-E Premium AWD opens a new chapter for Ford in Vietnam with a clear technological package: an 88 kWh battery platform, 150 kW DC fast charging, AWD, and a full range of ADAS features. The high price reflects the challenges of importing vehicles and shows the company's strategy of exploring the market before expanding to other configurations.
