“When it first happened, we thought Russia was lucky,” a source revealed. “But then it happened twice more.”
Both sources said the incidents occurred in airspace controlled by the Islamic State (IS) group, including Raqqa province, which is considered an IS stronghold, as well as on the Turkish-Syrian border, near the town of Korba. One incident occurred in northwestern Syria, near Aleppo.
The US MQ-1 Predator drone is easily detected by radar because it does not use stealth technology. According to a source, the Russian Air Force fighter jet did not try to shoot down the US spy plane, but flew close enough to be detected by the enemy.
A source said the "Russian aircraft flew very close, but did not obstruct the flight path of the UAVs"./.
