The husband used money from selling cattle to trade drugs.
Nguyen Van Cong confessed that the 24 million VND used to buy drugs came from selling livestock. Cong used and sold the drugs to make a profit.
On November 5, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendant Nguyen Van Cong (born 1982), residing in Vo Liet commune, Thanh Chuong district, for the crime of“Illegal drug trafficking”.
The indictment shows that while hunting animals in the border area, Nguyen Van Cong met and got to know a man named Long (Lao nationality) so he asked for his phone number to buy drugs.

At the end of April 2024, Cong called Long to buy 24 million VND worth of drugs. A few days later, Cong went to the meeting place announced by the seller in advance, which was the Khe Kho area, near the Vietnam-Laos border.
Here, Cong handed over the money and received a package of drugs. Cong brought the drugs home and hid them in many places such as the kitchen and charcoal stove.
Then, Cong used plastic bottles, glass tubes, and white plastic tubes to make tools for drug use. Nguyen Van Cong took a small amount of drugs and brought them to Quoc Mau Palace, Vo Liet Commune, to use.
When Cong had just finished using drugs and left the palace, he was arrested by the police with evidence of more than 90 grams of drugs.
Searching Cong's residence, the police discovered more than 30 grams of drugs. Thus, the total amount of drugs for which Cong must bear criminal responsibility is more than 121 grams.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment. The defendant stated that he bought crystal meth because he was addicted to it to use gradually and sell for profit. Regarding the money to buy the drugs, the defendant stated that he got it from selling the livestock that the couple raised.
The defendant presented his difficult circumstances and three young children to ask the court to consider reducing his sentence.
Considering the defendant's behavior as a violation of the law, the People's Court sentenced Nguyen Van Cong to 20 years in prison for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
