Man sentenced to prison three times for drug trafficking
(Baonghean.vn) - For the third time committing the crime of illegal drug trafficking, Luyen fell ill during detention.
On May 18, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendant Lo Van Luyen (born 1968), residing in Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking”.
This is the third time Luyen has been sentenced to prison for drugs. Previously, Luyen was sentenced to 14 and 10 years in prison for illegal drug trafficking.

Regarding this case, according to the indictment, at noon on December 16, 2022, Luyen walked to the hill near his house to buy drugs. After asking for the price, Luyen gave 20 million VND to buy pink pills and heroin. When he got home, Luyen took out 2 pink pills to use, and hid the rest in the kitchen to use and sell for profit.
On the afternoon of December 19, Luyen sold some heroin to a young man of unknown address for 200,000 VND. Not long after, Lo Van Luyen was inspected by the police and discovered more than 85 grams of various drugs hidden in his house.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime. Luyen said that because he was addicted, he bought drugs to resell and use gradually.
The defendant presented his difficult circumstances, illness and poor health during his detention in prison, asking the court to consider reducing his sentence.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant’s honest confession was a mitigating circumstance. However, in this case, the defendant had the aggravating circumstance of recidivism. Therefore, the court sentenced Lo Van Luyen to 19 years in prison for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
