On January 14, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Ha Vinh Ngoc (born 1975), residing in Xuan Giang commune, Nghi Xuan district (Ha Tinh province) for the crime of“Illegal drug trafficking”.
Ngoc is a defendant with a bad personal history with 5 previous convictions for the crimes of: extortion of citizens' property, theft of property, illegal transportation of drugs, illegal possession of drugs...
The defendant completed his most recent sentence in March 2020. Not long after being released from prison, Ngoc was arrested again for drugs.

According to the case file, at around 3:00 p.m. on July 22, 2020, Ngoc took a bus from his home to Vinh City. When the bus passed Ben Thuy Bridge, Ngoc discovered a black plastic bag under the seat of a female passenger, so he had the intention of stealing it. When the bus reached Vinh University intersection, Ngoc stole the bag and got off the bus.
Ngoc opened it to check and found drugs inside.pink sheet, many ecstasy pills. This man took a taxi home, hiding all the drugs in a bush.
On the evening of July 23, 2020, Ngoc took drugs and rented a taxi to Hanoi with the intention of selling them to nightclubs and bars. In the early morning of July 24, when the car reached Dien Ngoc commune, Dien Chau district, it was arrested by the police. The evidence seized in the case was more than 470 grams of various drugs.
At the trial, the defendant stated that the drugs were stolen. The defendant admitted that he had trafficked drugs for profit and asked for a lighter sentence.
Considering that the defendant's drug trafficking behavior is dangerous to society. The defendant has just been released from prison but reoffends, showing contempt for the law.
Considering the case as a whole, the People's Court sentenced Ha Vinh Ngoc to life in prison for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
