This can be considered a historical milestone for e-sports not only in Asia but also in the world when it was included in the official competition program of a tournament of magnitude second only to the Olympics.

Most recently, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) met and considered the possibility of including eSports in the 2024 Olympics in Paris (France). The final decision will be made after the 2020 Olympics end.

At AIMAG5 recently held in Turkmenistan, eSports (4 events) was chosen as the demonstration sport. Vietnam initially planned to participate with 9 players in 3 events: DOTA 2, StarCraft II, Hearthstone.

However, because this is a socialized sport, self-funded, and without any sponsors, the Vietnamese eSports team had to stay home. Similar to the 2018 ASIAD in Indonesia, eSports is also a demonstration sport. And the participating athletes must pay their own expenses./.
