On June 20, Gia Nghia City Police (Dak Nong) announced that they had just issued a decision to prosecute the case.prosecuteThe accused and the detention order against Hoang Cong Truong (born in 1986, residing in Ward 10, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City) for the act of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

Initial investigation results show that, around the beginning of 2021, Hoang Cong Truong had the intention of defrauding and appropriating other people's property through the social network Facebook by calling for charity money.

Truong searched for information on the Internet, downloaded pictures and posted them on Facebook with a fabricated article claiming that his relatives (wife, children, father, mother, brother, sister...) were in extremely pitiful circumstances to call for charity (transferring money to a personal account under a fake name) for personal gain.

Among them are articles and images calling for financial support for Hoang Duy Q. (born in 2015, in Kien Duc town, Dak R'lap district, Dak Nong province) who is being treated for a serious illness at Dak Nong General Hospital (with some related documents attached).

After Truong posted the article and photos on many personal Facebook pages, many people transferred donations to bank accounts and the money was appropriated by the subject.

With that trick, from the beginning of 2021 to June 13, 2023, 5,887 kind-hearted people everywhere "fell into the trap" and transferred more than 5.6 billion VND to Truong.

According to initial police statistics, the most transferred was more than 5 million VND and the least was 20 thousand VND.

The case is being further investigated and expanded by Gia Nghia City Police.
