The petition was set up on January 29. Nearly 900,000 people have signed it to support the call to stop US President Donald Trump from making an official visit to the UK, according to the Independent.
"Donald Trump can come to the UK, as head of the US government, but he cannot be invited for an official state visit because it would embarrass the Queen," the petition reads. The reason given is that Trump is "misogynistic and vulgar".
The British government will respond to any petition that receives more than 10,000 signatures and will refer it to parliament once it has reached 100,000. The petition to stop Trump reached 100,000 signatures at 12:45 on January 29. At one point, the petition was signed more than 56,000 times in an hour.
Data on the petition site shows that most of the signatures came from people in north, south and central London. Other anti-Trump hotspots include Brighton, Bristol, Edinburgh and Manchester.
British Prime Minister Theresa May, during a visit to Washington last week, announced that Mr Trump had accepted the Queen's invitation to visit Britain later this year. Sources in the British Prime Minister's Office confirmed that Mrs May did not withdraw the invitation because it was "in the national interest".
