Near the water plant, more than 300 households in Cau Giat town are still 'thirsty' for clean water.

(Baonghean.vn) - Although located only 2km from Quynh Luu clean water plant, for nearly 9 years, hundreds of households in blocks 7 and 8, Cau Giat town have not had clean water to use. Every month, people have to buy water for daily use from tank trucks.

People of block 7, Giat bridge buy clean water

During the hot season, the demand for water increases, the amount of water used is 3-4 times higher. However, people in blocks 7 and 8, Cau Giat town have to save every drop of clean water. And they have been used to having to buy water for daily use for many years now.

Mr. Pham Duc Vinh, a resident in Block 7, Cau Giat Town, said: “In 2006, his family spent 1.4 million VND to install a clean water pipe. For the first year or so, the water flowed strongly and pushed water up to a 3-storey house. However, more than a year later, the water flow slowed down, sometimes there was, sometimes not, and after a while there was not a single drop. To have water for daily use, his family has spent nearly 1 million VND/month to buy tap water for use for about 3 years now.”

Clean water pipes are on standby...

Mr. Nguyen Van Hue's family in Block 8 is in a similar situation. Mr. Hue was upset: For many years, my family has spent all their money to buy clean water in neighboring communes and Hoang Mai town for use. Every year, we, the people of Block 8, have to spend 8-10 million VND to buy clean water for use. Meanwhile, households in other blocks in town only spend 2-2.5 million VND to be able to use clean water all year round.

It is known that in 2000, Quynh Luu clean water plant was built, the entire water pipeline system from the plant to the blocks of the town was subsidized by the State. By the end of 2007, with 50% support from the Danish Clean Water Project, Cau Giat residents contributed more money to install a clean water pipeline system. Accordingly, each household paid according to the following rates: 1,400,000 VND (good income households), 800,000 VND (average income households) and 450,000 VND (poor households).

When the clean water project was completed and put into operation, the people of Cau Giat, Quynh Hong and Quynh Ba and the surrounding areas were extremely excited. However, the use of clean water for the people of blocks 7 and 8 did not last long, they could only use it for a while and then "thirst" for water until now.

Talking to us, Mr. Vu Duc Dung - Vice Chairman of Cau Giat Town People's Committee said: The incident as reported by the people of Blocks 7 and 8 is real. Faced with the above situation, around April 2016, the Town People's Committee invited the water plant and representatives of the two blocks to discuss and work together. The Quynh Luu water plant agreed with the households to install water meters and pipes on both sides along National Highway 1A (previously, National Highway 1A was upgraded and expanded, so the clean water pipes were damaged). As for the remaining pipes and meters going into the alleys and lanes inside, people have to spend money to buy equipment, the water plant will send workers down to help people install.

For nearly 9 years now, Block 7, located next to National Highway 1A, has been waiting for clean water.

As a result, after 2 months of implementation, currently in block 7, 50% of households have been installed with water meters, the rest have not been installed. Out of 240 households, 10 households have just had water to use. In block 8, 100% of households have been installed with water meters to use.

Currently, more than 300 households in blocks 7 and 8 of Cau Giat town are expecting the Quynh Luu water plant to install pipelines so they can soon have clean water to use.
