The personal information leak was reported by lowyat.net earlier this month and has been reported to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

According to the founder of lowyat.net, Mr. Vijandren Ramadass, with this information leak, from residential addresses, identification card numbers to phone SIM card information - detailed personal information of almost the entire Malaysian population, could have fallen into the hands of malicious individuals.

About 32 million Malaysians are vulnerable to cyberattacks that illegally collect personal information. The worst-case scenario is that phones have their data copied, leading to fraud and money laundering.

Mr. Vijandren said that Malaysian telecommunications companies need to frankly admit that this incident really happened, and at the same time notify and advise their customers to take necessary countermeasures.

Malaysian authorities are currently investigating the incident./.
