Meet the "Nhat" girl of Nghe An youth athletics
(Baonghean.vn) -Just returning from the 2013 National Youth Athletics Championship, 17-year-old Luong Thi Nhat was one of two outstanding athletes who won a gold medal for Nghe An Athletics in the women's 3000m race walk.
In the Nghe An athletics team, people call the young girl from Que Phong Nhat not because of her name Luong Thi Nhat but also because in the national youth athletics tournaments, she is the one who won the most achievements for the Nghe An team. In terms of the achievements of the youth age group in the whole team, Luong Thi Nhat is also an outstanding person when at the national championships for the youth age groups for 3 consecutive years from 2011 - 2013, Nhat "dominated" the 3000m walking track with 3 gold medals. Having been called to the national team to compete in the Southeast Asian student sports tournament in 2012 held in Indonesia, Nhat also brought home 2 silver medals for the Vietnamese sports delegation in the middle distance walking event.

Meeting Luong Thi Nhat at Nghe An Sports Training Center, few people know that the gentle girl born in 1996 has a strong will that few young athletes have. Born in Tien Phong commune of Que Phong district, Luong Thi Nhat soon showed her talent in athletics when she participated and won a silver medal for junior high school students in the 500m race at the Provincial Phu Dong Sports Festival in 2008. After that, Nhat was called to the Provincial Sports Training Center and trained in the athletics team from 2010 to present. When she joined the team, the coaches recognized her suitable qualities and transferred Nhat to train in the middle-distance walking event. With good physical strength, Luong Thi Nhat has proven herself to be a potential athlete when she constantly and persistently trains in conditions far from family and friends, having to both train and ensure cultural subjects at school.
Nhat confided: “I went to Vinh city and started training for the athletics team in 2010. At first, when I was away from my family, I missed home a lot, but my parents encouraged me a lot and I had more determination to continue training. For three years now, every time I miss home, I… put on my shoes and practice walking.” Training is a way for Nhat to forget about homesickness and also a way for him to further improve the personal skills and techniques that his coaches had previously taught him.
Mr. Nguyen Van Bang, head coach of the athletics department, Provincial Sports Training Center said: “Luong Thi Nhat is one of the athletes with good physical strength and, more importantly, her will to train is very strong. Nhat is one of the outstanding young athletes who has brought many achievements to the Nghe An youth athletics team”.
It is known that Luong Thi Nhat has just received good news after winning the gold medal at the 2013 National Youth Athletics Championship, which is a call-up to the national youth athletics team to prepare for the Southeast Asian Youth Athletics Championship to be held in Ho Chi Minh City this coming June.
