This is a practical activity of the youth of the two countries to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the 35th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Cooperation, and the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year 2012. The program was organized by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in coordination with the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union.

At a press conference introducing the 2012 Vietnam-Laos Youth Friendship Meeting program on the morning of August 16th, a representative of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union announced that Mr. Phan Van Mai, Permanent Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union, will lead the Vietnamese delegation of 60 delegates. These delegates are representative figures from all fields of activity, including: Youth Union members, young people, civil servants, students, young entrepreneurs, artists, youth in the armed forces, and officials working with children and teenagers…

The program will take place over 7 days from August 22-28 in the provinces of Bolykhamxay, Khammouane, Salavan, and Savanaket. The main activities include: the groundbreaking ceremony for the Vietnam-Laos Border Youth Friendship Village project; a seminar on youth union work, youth movements, and strengthening youth cooperation between the two countries; the donation of 3 computer rooms (10 computers/room) to youth centers in the provinces visited; and visits to former leaders of the Lao Party and State.

According to Mr. Phan Van Mai, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Vietnam-Laos Youth Friendship Meeting is an annual program, especially this year - the Year of Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity 2012 - the program has become even more meaningful.

This is also a good opportunity to strengthen exchanges and mutual understanding between the youth organizations and young people of the two countries, contributing to educating young people about the special traditional friendship between Vietnam and Laos; affirming the determination, responsibility, and pioneering role of the youth of the two countries in preserving, consolidating, and further strengthening the traditional, loyal, and pure relationship between the people of Vietnam and Laos.
