(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 23rd (the 5th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Goat), the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Provincial Fatherland Front of Nghe An province organized a meeting with people from Nghe An living abroad who returned to their homeland to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Goat in 2015.
Attending the ceremony were: Ms. Le Thi Tu Uyen - Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Le Doan Hop - former Member of the Central Committee of the Party, former Minister of Information and Communications. On the side of Nghe An province were: Mr. Ho Duc Phoc - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee; representatives of leaders, departments, agencies, mass organizations, districts, cities, towns and businesses, as well as people from Nghe An living, studying and working abroad who returned to visit their homeland to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2015.

In his welcoming remarks at the ceremony, on behalf of the provincial leadership, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, expressed his joy at welcoming overseas Nghe An residents back to their homeland to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Goat. The Chairman informed the overseas residents about some outstanding achievements of the Party Committee, government, and people of the province in 2014. Despite the general difficulties, Nghe An province's socio-economic development achieved quite comprehensive results: Economic growth reached 7.24%; budget revenue exceeded the projected target (7,652 billion VND); investment attraction increased significantly with 145 projects/43,892 billion VND, with many large projects commenced; transportation infrastructure developed strongly; cultural and social activities continued to improve positively, especially the Nghe Tinh folk songs (Vi and Giam) being recognized by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity…

Nghe An province has a large number of overseas Vietnamese, with Nghe An workers accounting for a significant proportion of Vietnam's overseas workforce, approximately over 50,000 people. In addition, there is a substantial resource of Nghe An intellectuals, entrepreneurs, and students studying abroad across the globe. In 2014, remittances from overseas Nghe An amounted to over 400 million USD, making it one of the provinces with the highest remittance volumes in the country.

Currently, there are approximately 20 investment projects in Nghe An province by overseas entrepreneurs/businesses, with a total registered capital of over 14,000 billion VND. Some notable projects include: Minh Anh Kim Lien Garment Joint Stock Company; Bai Lu Tourist Area in Nghi Yen commune, Nghi Loc district; and the VICENTRA Commercial Center of Eurowindows Group. These overseas Vietnamese projects have created jobs for local workers, increased budget revenue by over 182 billion VND, and contributed to the overall economic and social development of the province. The Party Committee, government, and people of Nghe An province highly value and appreciate the contributions of overseas Vietnamese to their homeland. They always strive to support overseas Vietnamese in stabilizing their lives, developing their economy, preserving their national cultural identity, integrating into the communities in their host countries, and maintaining a connection to their roots.

On behalf of the provincial leadership, comrades Ho Duc Phoc and Nguyen Xuan Duong expressed their hope that overseas Nghe An people would continue to strengthen solidarity, help each other, preserve their national cultural identity, remain attached to their homeland, and together with their compatriots abroad, make positive contributions to the development of their homeland, acting as a bridge to bring Nghe An province closer and faster to international friends. The provincial leadership always recognizes that overseas Nghe An people are an inseparable part of the Nghe An community in general and a driving force for the socio-economic development of the locality. The province will continue to strive to build policies to create the most favorable conditions for overseas Nghe An people to return to their homeland to invest, do business, and live.
At the meeting, representatives of overseas Vietnamese expressed their joy at the changes in their homeland. They also shared information about the activities of people from Nghe An living abroad. Many overseas Vietnamese offered heartfelt opinions, expressing their desire to contribute to building a stronger and more prosperous Nghe An province.
On this occasion, the People's Committee of Nghe An province awarded certificates of merit to 3 collectives and 4 individuals for their contributions to the development of their homeland.
