Harvesting summer-autumn rice to avoid floods in Hung Nguyen
(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, farmers in the communes in the middle and along the Lam River of Hung Nguyen district are urgently going to the fields to harvest the summer-autumn rice crop to avoid flooding.
Learning from the damage caused by floods, this year's summer-autumn crop, Hung Nhan commune (Hung Nguyen) directed farmers to proactively plant summer-autumn rice seedlings 10-15 days earlier than the district's general schedule. "To successfully produce summer-autumn, the commune has directed people to restructure short-term varieties and arrange early production. Compared to previous years, Hung Nhan's summer-autumn rice this year is likely to have a fairly high yield, averaging 50 - 54 quintals/ha" - Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoan, Chairman of Hung Nhan Commune People's Committee said.

Thanks to proactively planting early rice seedlings with short-term rice varieties, by mid-August, while in many localities the rice had just entered the green stage, the entire 120-hectare summer-autumn rice area of Hung Nhan had already ripened.
Mr. Hoa Van Toan's family in hamlet 4 grows 3 sao of summer-autumn rice. On August 15, he finished harvesting. He said: "When we saw that the rice had started to ripen 70-80%, we focused on harvesting, drying the rice husks, and also brought the straw to the sandbank to "save ourselves" in case of floods so that the cattle and buffaloes would have something to eat."

With the motto of “Better at home than in the fields”, Hung Nhan directed farmers to quickly harvest the summer-autumn rice, ensuring safety and security. Up to now, the entire summer-autumn rice area of the commune has basically been harvested.
Mr. Le Viet Hung - Head of the Plant Protection Station of Hung Nguyen district said: "This summer-autumn crop, the district produced 4,500 hectares of rice, of which about 3,000 hectares were in the communes in the middle and along the Lam River. Because farmers proactively produced early, the rice is now ripe. As of August 24, the whole district has harvested more than 1,000 hectares."
With the current harvest progress, by August 30, the communes along the Lam River will have completed the summer-autumn rice harvest, and the communes in the middle region will have harvested 50%, and are expected to complete it by September 5. As for the outer communes including Hung Dao, the town, Hung Tay, Hung Yen, and Hung Trung, the planting was later, so some late summer-autumn rice fields are currently in the green stage, and the early season fields are blooming.
