Russian 'Bear' Tu-95 fires cruise missiles to destroy a series of terrorists in Syria
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the country's Tu-95 bombers (NATO code name Bear) have just attacked key positions of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) and Al-Nusra Front in Deir ez-Zor and Idlib provinces with cruise missiles.
“Tu-95 aircraft carried out airstrikes with cruise missiles on the positions of terrorist groups in Syria. Taking off from the Engels airfield in Russia, the Tu-95 bombers flew over the airspace of Iran and Iraq to carry out this mission,” said Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov.
According to Mr. Konashenkov, Kh-101 cruise missiles attacked the most important terrorist targets such as command posts and weapons depots. During this mission, the Tu-95 was escorted by Su-30 and Su-35 fighter jets, taking off from the Khmeimim airbase.

To conduct airstrikes in Syria, the Tu-95 had to travel 7,000km and refuel in the air once.
The airstrike was carried out in support of the Syrian army's ground offensive against IS.
The Russian Defense Ministry representative emphasized that the attacked targets were located outside residential areas and also at a safe distance from places where US special forces were operating.
