Causing multiple accidents, taxi driver panicked and jumped off bridge

A taxi crashed into a series of motorbikes going in the opposite direction on the Chua Boc-Thai Ha overpass, causing harm to many people. The taxi driver was then said to have panicked and jumped straight from the bridge to the ground.

The serious traffic accident occurred at around 10:45 p.m. on the evening of November 8 on the Chua Boc-Thai Ha overpass, Hanoi.

At this time, a Vinataxi taxi with license plate number 30A-646.73 was traveling at high speed from Nga Tu So to Nguyen Luong Bang. Going up the bridge, the taxi suddenly crossed into the left lane and crashed straight into a motorbike. Without stopping, the taxi dragged the motorbike and the first victim onto the bridge, continuing to crash into a series of other motorbikes; finally the taxi crashed into the bridge wall, turning sideways onto the road.

Many crashed motorbikes were piled on top of each other.

In just a moment, 6-7 motorbikes were lying around, broken. The victims were lying all over the overpass, some were unconscious, .... While everyone was still in shock, suddenly a person (believed to be the driver) got out of the taxi, climbed over the bridge railing, jumped straight from a height of 5m to the ground, lying motionless.

It is reported that the taxi had been weaving and speeding, with a pickup truck chasing behind, and there was even someone clinging to the hood of the taxi, so it is likely that the taxi had been hit and then fled.

Currently, the victims (including the person who jumped from the bridge onto the street) have been taken to Bach Mai Hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities have blocked off both ends of the bridge to deal with the incident.

The Chua Boc - Thai Ha overpass was inaugurated in late April 2012 to reduce traffic congestion at the Chua Boc - Tay Son intersection. This is the first assembled overpass in Hanoi and is only for motorbikes and cars with 9 seats or less, with a maximum speed of 25 km/h.
