Fishing boat on fire next to oil tanker

(Baonghean.vn) - At around 1:30 p.m. on September 13, a fishing boat moored next to two large oil tankers of Tan Xuan Company Limited, Nghi Tan Ward (Cua Lo Town) caught fire fiercely.

Some fishermen on the boat tried to put out the fire but failed and had to risk their lives by jumping into the sea to escape. Due to the lack of fire fighting equipment on site, the fire quickly spread. Tan Xuan Company mobilized dozens of workers as well as surrounding residents to the area to put out the fire.

Two oil tankers of Tan Xuan Company Ltd. had to anchor towards the estuary to prevent the fire from spreading. Upon receiving the news, the Cua Lo town fire fighting force dispatched fire trucks and dozens of officers and soldiers to the scene to put out the fire. About 30 minutes later, the fire was brought under control and completely extinguished.

At the scene, a fishing boat of Thanh Hoa fishermen was completely burned. The remaining boat was charred and smoking, located about 1km from the fuel depot.

The fire caused Nguyen Van Quan (18 years old, residing in Nghi Tan ward, Cua Lo town) to suffer minor burns and had to be taken to Cua Lo town General Hospital for emergency treatment. Cua Lo town police are currently examining the scene, investigating the cause and calculating the damage of the fire.
