"I just wanted to surprise her and tell her I liked her... but she rejected me," said Tong Aonan, a mechanic in the northern Chinese city of Shenyang.
"I don't really pay much attention to it," Tong told CNN yesterday.
The 27-year-old said it took him two months to sketch out the 2.1-meter-high, 1.4-meter-wide "portrait." He drew it using Photoshop, then spent $460 to buy 840 Rubik's cubes to take home.
Tong solved each Rubik's cube according to the design and mounted them on a wooden frame. It took him 20 hours over three nights to complete the painting. After his confession was rejected, Tong shared it online and received many comments.
Most people wondered why the girl refused such a sincere confession. Tong said that although he did not receive a response, his sincerity still touched the girl.
China is famous for its creative love confessions. A young man in Guangzhou proposed to his girlfriend with 99 iPhones, because the pronunciation of the number 99 is similar to "nine nine", which means everlasting love. In Sichuan, a place famous for its spicy food, a young man proposed to his girlfriend with 99,999 red chili peppers shaped into two hearts.
