Mr. Phan Minh Thong, General Director of Phuc Sinh Joint Stock Company, assessed that what is happening in the coffee market from 2023 to now is a rule that only happens once every 40-50 years.

Coffee prices are at their highest point in 50 years. Just in April 2023, when coffee prices reached 50,000 VND/kg, farmers felt "like a dream" because they had endured for too long with prices hovering around 35,000 VND/kg.

Until now, when the price of coffee has reached 120,000 VND, farmers still do not want to sell much with the expectation that the price will continue to increase when they see that there is not much coffee.

In addition to the sudden increase in prices, the coffee industry's records last year included the price of Robusta coffee surpassing that of Arabica coffee for the first time; record-high profits for coffee farmers; and the rise of Vietnamese businesses.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices on the world market also fluctuate:

Robusta Coffee (London):

Delivery in March 2025: Up 27 USD/ton, to 5,006 USD/ton.

Delivery in May 2025: Up 17 USD/ton, to 4,908 USD/ton.

Arabica Coffee (New York):

March 2025 delivery: Up 5.9 cents/lb, to 324.4 cents/lb.

May 2025 delivery: Up 6.1 cents/lb, to 320.8 cents/lb.

According to Reuters news agency, market attention remains focused on the harvest in Vietnam, the world's largest robusta producer.

Rains have slowed the harvest and caused quality concerns, but the situation appears to be improving.

"The weather has been more favorable for harvesting activities. Supply may increase before Tet," a trader in Vietnam's coffee growing region said.

According to experts, domestic coffee prices increased during the coffee harvest season due to high demand and limited supply.

In the Central Highlands this year, coffee growers do not face much financial pressure, because many gardeners have stable income from other crops such as durian, pepper... Therefore, they are not in a hurry to harvest when the coffee is not really ripe, nor are they in a hurry to sell coffee beans but "hoard goods", waiting for prices to go up.
