Domestic coffee prices continue to climb to new records due to limited supply, adverse weather and strong global demand. Many experts predict that this upward trend could last until at least the third quarter of 2025, depending on the ability of production in Vietnam and Brazil to recover.

At the current price, some agents who bought at more than 130,000 VND/kg are hoping to recover their capital, while farmers said the price is equivalent to the time of harvest.

According to the Vietnam Commodity Exchange (MXV), domestic inventory is currently very low, making it difficult for businesses to collect goods according to signed contracts.

In the context of exports facing many trade barriers and tariffs, the coffee industry is under both pressure and opportunity. Enterprises need to be proactive and flexible in production and business to take advantage of every favorable moment and promote exports to potential markets.

World coffee prices today

On the London Stock Exchange, the online price of Robusta coffee futures contract for September 2025 delivery closed the trading session on August 15 at 4,174 USD/ton, up sharply by 2.2% (90 USD/ton) compared to the previous trading session. However, the futures contract for November 2025 delivery increased by 2.61% (103 USD/ton) to 4,055 USD/ton.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for delivery in September 2025 increased sharply by 2.77% (9.05 US cents/pound) to 335.55 US cents/pound. The contract for delivery in December 2025 increased by 2.68% (9.1 US cents/pound) to 327.8 US cents/pound.

Coffee prices continue to rise sharply, reaching their highest level in many months and higher than the same period last year. The reason is not only due to seasonal factors but also due to global supply and demand pressure. Supply is in serious shortage as coffee inventories in Vietnam have dropped to their lowest level in many years.

Adverse weather conditions are a major factor pushing up coffee prices. Drought, heat and pests are expected to cut Vietnam’s Robusta output by 20%. In Brazil, unseasonal rains and frost have also affected Arabica growing areas. These concerns have prompted importers to buy early to hedge against risks.

Rising shipping costs due to tensions in the Red Sea, along with the EU’s anti-deforestation regulation (EUDR), have made production more expensive. Meanwhile, demand from the EU, the US and Japan remains strong, especially as Vietnamese coffee is competitively priced. Global exchange rates and inflation also contribute to keeping prices high.

Coffee prices are forecast to continue rising until Q3/2025 due to limited supply and speculation. However, if Brazil and Vietnam’s production recovers strongly by the end of 2025, prices could fall 20-30% compared to current levels.
