In Lam Dong, the coffee harvest season should have been bustling, but the prolonged rain from morning to evening has cast a somber atmosphere. The damp weather has prevented many households from harvesting at the right time, causing delays throughout the region.

Outside the plantations, the coffee cherries have ripened, but heavy rains have caused many to fall to the ground. In some orchards, the harvest is in full swing, but laborers are unable to harvest, with crop losses reaching up to 20% in some areas. Coffee growers can only watch as their year's hard work is severely affected by the stalled harvest.

Coffee is the main source of income for many families in the Central Highlands, so the damage is all the more worrying. The fruit has fallen in the rainwater, especially in the sloping areas, and it's almost impossible to collect it all. For the people, this is a huge loss at a time that is considered the "Tet" (Lunar New Year) of coffee farming.

Nevertheless, many households still tried to harvest in the rain, patiently picking up every remaining fruit. For these people, each coffee bean is the result of a year's labor, so no matter how difficult the circumstances, they still try to minimize the damage.

According to Reuters, the Trump administration's decision to eliminate tariffs on most imported coffee beans benefits American roasters and importers. However, Brazil suffers as its coffee still faces significantly higher tariffs than other markets.

The new policy has exempted coffee beans from most producing countries from tariffs, but for Brazil, the US only removed the 10% reciprocal tariff, while the 40% tariff remains in place. This reduces the competitiveness of Brazilian coffee even in the world's largest consumer market.

Experts believe that changes in tariffs will lead the US to increase coffee purchases from Asia and Latin America, while reducing imports from Brazil. Judith Ganes, President of J. Ganes Consulting, predicts that price will be the driving factor in future trade flows.

She also stated that robusta is benefiting from the fact that most Asian producers are exempt from tariffs. Therefore, American roasters can increase the proportion of robusta in their blends to lower the already higher costs of arabica.
