Farmers in Dak Lak have reported a strange phenomenon, with coffee ripening unusually early. Harsh weather and continuous rain and storms could delay the coffee harvest.

Weather forecasts are not optimistic, with prolonged rain and storms expected to hamper the coffee harvest. In particular, coffee prices this year have skyrocketed, reaching an unprecedented peak right before harvest.

Vietnam's current coffee supply is falling sharply, as the main harvest season from November to December approaches.

At the end of the most recent trading session, the price of Robusta coffee in London for November 2024 delivery decreased by 69 USD/ton, at 5,234 USD/ton, and for January 2025 delivery decreased by 53 USD/ton, at 4,987 USD/ton.

Arabica coffee price for December 2024 delivery decreased by 0.95 cent/lb, at 263.55 cent/lb, and for March 2025 delivery decreased by 0.90 cent/lb, at 261.45 cent/lb.

The combined coffee-producing region of Mexico and Central America is expected to see a 6.40% increase in Arabica production, compared to the average of the past decade, for the 2024/25 crop year. Despite uncertainties about the impact of climate change, the region’s output is forecast to reach 16.50 million bags of coffee.

Higher expected robusta coffee prices could boost production in West and East African countries, while Uganda, Africa's top robusta producer, is expected to keep output steady at 15 million bags.

The market is keeping an eye on weather developments in Vietnam, with the crop season starting in October 2024, which could be affected by El Niño, dampening expectations for a robusta harvest. The general view in the global market is that coffee prices are likely to continue to rise due to the influence of weather factors.
