Domestic coffee prices are currently overbought, so a short-term price drop is entirely possible. However, overall investor sentiment remains quite optimistic about long-term prospects.

Robusta coffee prices have risen sharply over the past month. This is good news for those holding the stock, but it has also raised concerns about a potential price bubble bursting at any moment.

Today's international trading session saw price drops of up to hundreds of points, a sign that the market will continue to experience significant volatility. Traders need to exercise extreme caution to effectively manage risk.

Although Robusta is Vietnam's main export commodity, in the first seven months of 2025, Arabica coffee was the highlight in terms of exports. Data from the General Department of Customs shows that Arabica exports reached 59,300 tons with a value of 93.4 million USD, an increase of 16% in volume and a sharp increase of 129% in value compared to the same period last year.

World coffee prices today

On the London exchange, the online price of robusta coffee futures for September 2025 delivery reached $4602/ton, a sharp decrease of 4.66% ($225/ton) compared to yesterday. The November 2025 futures contract fell 4.95% ($229/ton) to $4399/ton.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for September 2025 delivery fell sharply by 3.69% (14.65 US cents/pound) compared to yesterday, to 382.2 US cents/pound. The December 2025 contract decreased by 4.08% (15.75 US cents/pound), reaching 370.35 US cents/pound.

In just two trading sessions, the price of Robusta coffee futures for November 2025 has plummeted by $416 per ton, falling even faster than the initial increase. In Vietnamese currency, the current price is only around 115,000 VND per kilogram.

According to expert Nguyen Quang Binh, this price drop is influenced by several factors. Regarding supply, the rainfall in Brazil has eased concerns about the risk of crop failure in the coming period.

Another factor is the US decision on retaliatory tariffs. The US court deemed this decision illegal, and President Donald Trump has appealed. These tariffs will remain in place until a final ruling is made, even though the market is expecting import tariffs to be reduced to 0%.

Furthermore, the European Union's (EU) Anti-Deforestation Act, expected to come into effect at the end of 2025, is also having a significant impact, primarily affecting the Brazilian coffee industry, causing Arabica prices to fall and consequently Robusta prices to decline as well.
