Nghe An fresh tea bud price increased to the highest level in many years
(Baonghean.vn) - Since the beginning of 2024, industrial tea growers in Nghe An have been excited, because tea buds have been purchased by local businesses at the highest price in many years, from 5,400 - 6,000 VND/kg.

At this time, the growersindustrial teaIn Thanh Chuong, Con Cuong, Anh Son districts, the spring tea harvest has just been completed and they are actively preparing for the next harvest. Many tea growers said that this year, tea buds are purchased by businesses at a higher price than in previous years, so people are excited.
Mr. Nguyen Sy Binh in Thanh Thuy commune (Thanh Chuong) is currently taking care of more than 1 hectare of 4-year-old tea. Mr. Binh shared that his family has been growing industrial tea for decades, but 5 years ago, the family replanted the entire crop, so this year's tea is only 4 years old, therefore, the tea canopy is not wide, and the yield is not very high. However, thanks to knowing how to take care of and harvest properly, the yield last spring crop also reached nearly 2 tons/ha. With a selling price of 5,500 VND/kg, Mr. Binh's family earned more than 10 million VND.

“Previously, tea prices often fluctuated from 2,500 - 3,500 VND/kg, so with this tea price being the highest in 3 - 4 years, tea growers therefore have high income. Industrial tea is harvested year-round, when the weather is favorable, every month a crop is harvested, but in the hot summer months, the growth of the tea plants is often interrupted, so each year 7 - 8 crops are harvested. With tea areas that are 5 - 6 years old or older, if properly cared for, the yield can reach over 3 tons/crop, earning over 100 million VND per year,” said Mr. Binh.
Thanh Chuong district is the locality with the largest industrial tea area in the province. Mr. Tran Phi Hung - Head of the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: Tea in Thanh Chuong district is grown in many communes along Ho Chi Minh road such as Thanh Thuy, Thanh Mai, Hanh Lam, Thanh Duc... with a total area of nearly 5,000 hectares, an increase compared to recent years.
This yearfresh tea budsThe tea growers are excited because they sell at a good price, and they sell at over 5,500 VND/kg. In particular, some households in Thanh Mai commune specialize in importing tea buds to fixed businesses, so the businesses buy them at a price of up to 6,000 VND/kg.

“Because tea prices are high, people are actively protecting and taking care of tea properly to achieve high productivity. As a key crop, many households in the district have invested in irrigation systems using sprinkler technology in previous years to reduce labor and achieve higher efficiency,” said Mr. Tran Phi Hung.
Speaking to reporters, a representative of Thanh Mai Tea Processing Agricultural Cooperative said: In the last spring tea crop, the unit purchased fresh tea buds at 6,000 VND/kg from households that cooperated closely with the unit. It is expected that the price of tea in the upcoming crop will decrease, but will still be at a high level of 5,300 to 5,500 VND/kg.
The reason why tea prices will decrease in the coming time is because the spring tea crop yielded low tea, while the next crop yield will be much higher. As for the reason why tea buds this year are much higher than previous years, partly because the tea consumption market is more favorable, but the main reason is that many tea processing factories are operating, so there is competition to buy and sell.

“Currently, dried tea products are still in stock, but the unit continues to purchase fresh tea buds at high prices to ensure the factory's operating capacity and always have products to supply the market all year round, especially when the export market abroad improves,” Mr. Nguyen Van Duong shared.
According to Mr. Lo Van Ly - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Con Cuong district, the locality currently has nearly 400 hectares of tea in Yen Khe and Bong Khe communes... However, the price of tea in Con Cuong is not as high as in Thanh Chuong, and people only sell it for 4,800 VND/kg. However, this is also the highest price in many years. Industrial tea is one of the main crops in some localities. Thanks to the development of tea trees, the lives of a part of the people have been greatly improved.
Nghe An currently has nearly 10,000 hectares of industrial tea, mainly in Thanh Chuong, Anh Son, Con Cuong districts...; the common tea yield is from 15 - 17 tons/ha, in some areas with good care, it can reach nearly 20 tons/ha. Accordingly, the annual output of fresh tea buds in Nghe An is estimated at 150 - 170 thousand tons.
